C.A.M.P., which stands for
Constructing
Assured and
Motivated People, takes place this year
from August 3 - 9 at the Resident Camping Facility at Tar Hollow State
Park. This will be the 53nd annual C.A.M.P. session. Directed from its
inception in 1956 by David and Janice Brizius (Boonie and Janny) , the camp
through the years has received many impressive awards of merit:
THE OHIO GOVERNOR’S AWARD FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE from
Governor Gilligan
ONE OF THE BEST YOUTH PROJECTS IN THE U.S..A.
from PARENTS MAGAZINE
A POINTS OF LIGHT AWARD from President George
H.W. Bush
(plus many awards of merit from numerous Ohio mayors.)
However, the Brizius feel that the best award of all is
the fact that so many of their former campers return year after year to give
their time to serve on the staff to “Pay back “ for what they feel was so
important in their own lives.. Sometimes they travel from as far away as
the Marshall Islands or Alaska at their own expense to share this experience
with the campers.
The campers sleep in log cabins with a counselor to
camper ratio of at least 1 to 7, swim and boat in a beautiful little lake,
enjoy sports programs of all sorts, and may choose from over 20 different
areas of interest for personal development.. There is a camp band, choir,
and drama troupe All campers enjoy special evening programs and varied
opportunities for spiritual growth. The program is totally
interdenominational. It is also interracial.
Young people grades 6 through June High School
graduates are eligible to attend. it is a good idea to register early as the
camp often fills up before camp time, and also by registering early you
get a price break. The camp fee
includes every expense the camper will have while at camp, including a full
color camp picture, a camp t-shirt, all treats for the week, any field trip
expenses, and any craft-making expenses...and of course room and board and
classes for free from experienced leaders.
No refunds on cancellations after July 1st. Prior to July 1st full refund
if they need to cancel.
Regular fee for the week is $195.00
Early registration fee is $175.00 (if paid in full by
June 12th.)
Sibling discount is $10.00 per person.
So a youngster registering early and having a brother
or sister also attending would only pay $165.00.
